Often times we can forget that officers are people just like you and I. It’s interactions like this that allow us to see the “human” side of them and realize that great police officers DO EXIST. We are so grateful for Newport News Police Department and their servitude to the community. Two of them joined us in a game of tug of war this on Resurrection Sunday weekend in Aqueduct.
We received a $1200 Grant from Community Knights in Newport News, VA and was able to purchase 65 brand new coats for children in the Aqueduct neighborhood. We coordinated dates with Alpha and Omega Network of Ministries and their PACCT Christmas Event to bless this community all around. They received coats, groceries, and Christmas presents.
Dr. Eric "Duke" McCaskill along with his wife Dr. Linda "Duchess" McCaskill, of Alpha and Omega Network of Ministries/ Institute, initiated the PAACT (Police and Concerned Citizens Together) initiative in 2014 to increase positive police presence in communities. As a part of their mission, they have come together to provide food insecurity relief in the Aqueduct as well as Sherwood Arms communities in Newport News, VA. We have had the honor of assisting them in their outreach efforts. On Halloween, we provided candy for the children and were able to distribute them to their smiling faces. For Thanksgiving, we were able to give 20 boxes packed with food, a bible, and handwritten cards thanks to Lighthouse Church of Glen Burnie, MD. These boxes were given to refugees from various countries staying in the Sherwood Arms community to include Afghanistan, Sudan, Myanmar, Cuba, and Vietnam. We also helped Alpha and Omega Ministries distribute the turkeys and abundance of groceries they were able to provide to both Aqueduct and Sherwood Arms.
Our 2021 Back to School Bash was a success! First and foremost, we want to thank God for giving us the opportunity and all of the resources to be a blessing to others. We were able to provide 102 children with book bags and school supplies for this school year, a couple of free haircuts, and some prizes. Due to the weather, we weren’t able to do everything we planned but that’s okay! The community was still able to enjoy cotton candy and sno cones, music by DJ Aaron, and an awesome game of Limbo. Alpha & Omega Network/Institute collaborated with Newport News Police Department yesterday as well as a part of the PACCT (Police and Concerned Citizens Together)Initiative’s Food Insecurity Relief and distributed free groceries and Chick-fil-A to the community. Residents of Aqueduct Apartments were blessed around the board yesterday and we look forward to future opportunities to bring light to this community. We want to thank EVERYONE who donated to make this event possible. A big thanks to Lighthouse Church in Glen Burnie, MD for their continued sponsorship to us and providing 50 book-bags full of supplies for this event! Thank you Reverend Eric “Duke” McCaskill Sr for supporting us, providing us with more backpacks with supplies and connecting us with the proper people to be in regulations for our first community event. Thank you Bubbles the Clown by Wanda for providing great entertainment and being patient and flexible with us through the weather. And thank you to our volunteers who showed up and helped us serve our community.May God Bless you all!
