About the event

Our reason why:

In Newport News, Virginia alone - we have seen generations of fatherless young men become accustomed to a culture of glorifying violence.

After losing dozens of people close to us to gun violence, we’ve  begun to wonder if these young men would still be ALIVE if the person who pulled the trigger had the proper guidance, a father, a mentor.

With this in mind, we strive to introduce these young men to new environments and show them the love of our Father in Heaven, in hopes that they will live a life enjoying the Wildlife instead of a wild life.

In our Trading a Wild Life for Wildlife program, we take young men from the Aqueduct community under our wing and mentor them. As a part of this program, we give the young men an opportunity to trade the wild life that they may have lived in the past for  a healthier wildlife by participating in 4 camping trips a year and introducing them to fun activities that can build knowledge and actual skillsets/ survival skills such as fishing, archery, and snowboarding.

We started off with 4 young men in 2020 and have been working with 7 consistently for the past year and are recruiting more from the Aqueduct Community every month. We are now able to interact with over 50 youth a month through our ALIVE Community Days and would like to give more young men alternatives to the wild life they’ve become accustomed to while introducing them to a peaceful wildlife.

This year, we are recruiting more young men from the Aqueduct Boys and Girls Club to bring on our Winter Camping/Ski Trip. There will be a 1:3 ratio of mentors to mentees with a total of 20 people.
